Baker Lake TrailExploring Baker Lake Trail: A Winter Hiking AdventureBaker Lake Trail

Winter hiking can be a challenging and rewarding experience, and our recent adventure on the Baker Lake Trail was no exception. We had never explored this trail before, so we packed up our gear and set out for the trailhead around noon.

Upon arriving, we found the parking lot covered in slushy, icy snow. Trying to park next to another car proved to be difficult, as the Expedition we were driving kept sliding towards the parked car. After several attempts to clear the snow and reposition the car, we finally decided to put on the snow chains. It took us some time to untangle them, but once we had them on, we were able to safely back out of the parking spot and park on the far right side of the lot.

With our snowshoes and microspikes on hand, we set out on the Baker Lake Trail. The first half mile was snow-covered and filled with large moss-covered evergreens. After that, the snow dwindled, and we removed our microspikes for the rest of the trail. However, fallen trees across the trail made for some challenging traverses.

Despite only exploring two miles of the trail, we were able to catch glimpses of the lake and cross several creeks and streams. Unfortunately, the foggy weather prevented us from seeing Mt. Baker, but we plan on returning in the summer or fall to experience more of the trail and possibly do some backpacking.

If you’re looking for a winter hiking adventure, Baker Lake Trail is definitely worth exploring. With its stunning views, evergreen forests, and refreshing streams, it’s a great destination for outdoor enthusiasts of all levels.
